The Role
The internship was a valuable insight into the finance industry and the role Technology played. The workplace atmosphere was always enjoyable as was the overall experience externally with my fellow interns.
From my first day at the office, my team were extremely inclusive both in terms of the work that they required me to carry out and in their ease and familiarity with me. I was encouraged to participate in discussions and meetings from my very first week and any opinions or questions I voiced were acknowledged extremely well. I was also assigned an individual internship project which centred around my analysis of the project my team were working on and I was asked to present it to key stakeholders who both valued and respected my thoughts and opinions.
My supervisors maintained a good balance throughout the internship of letting me carry out work independently but also arranging regular meetings and reviews to check my progress. This was invaluable as it provided me with the right support throughout the placement.
The level of work that I was assigned on a daily basis varied according to the status of the project within my team and the level of work that I was required to do with regards to the internship ie projects and reports. On slower days if I asked for more work I was always provided with something to do ie. shadowing which meant that I was always occupied.
I was given a very good level of responsibility through the tasks that I was required to carry out for the team I was placed in and the individual project that I was assigned by my line manager. This allowed me to build my confidence and think independently which was a good reflection of the type of work that I would be assigned as a graduate in my department.
The interpersonal skills that I have gained and the technological training that I received will definitely assist me in certain aspects of my degree, for example in my more technical modules. However the majority of the skills I picked up will be of more assistance in the future ie. in future interviews, placements and jobs.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my office was always brilliant. My colleagues were always friendly, engaging and willing to involve me in discussions so I was never excluded and the days never dragged.
The Culture
The nightlife was incredible.
