The Role
I was given a project to work for 8 weeks which I really enjoyed as I was able to take ownership of it and contribute with tangible input.
Felt really valued by team members, did a presentation to my team and everyone listened and gave valuable feedback. Also did a presentation to Exco members which really took our input into account and might implement some of our ideas.
My line manager was away during the first two weeks and during these weeks I felt I had no one I could really go to for guidance. My team members did not prepare any real work for me to work on. But once my line manager arrived I felt like I could always approach him for help and he would always give me feedback and took some time to sit down with me when needed.
First two weeks was not busy at all as my Line manager was on annual leave and team members did not really know what work to give me. Week 3-9 was on a perfect balance of busy, had a big project to work on and really enjoyed it. I submitted my project at the end of week 9 and durnig week 10 was a bit bored as I did not have much work except for a group presentation.
Was not given real responsibility but had the opportunity to work on a big project which will be very helpful to internal employees.
Developed my networking skills by booking meetings with employees from different departments. Learned about treasury technicalities but do not think that will be useful for my degree (study Business Management)
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and took some time to sit down with me and explain me about their roles and experience. One of the most appealing factors for me about RBS which would definitely make me consider the graduate scheme offer.
Not quite prepared when my line manager was away during the first two weeks. Would recommend in the future interns are given two line managers if one of them is away during the first weeks. Rest of the internship well organised,
Did not find induction week or excel training useful. Felt that the company really invested in us during the time in our offices though.
Appealing grad job, like the fact that there is a rotation every 6 months
