The Role
I really enjoyed this internship. I was able to work on the desks that I really wanted to get a chance to rotate in. The volume of work was just right and I learnt a lot along the way. As a result it was very rewarding and I would recommend it to anyone.
I feel that my colleagues were very keen to get me involved with the activities on the desk. Everyone was very open and willing to give me the chance to learn on the job so that I could make the most of the tasks I had been given. I feel that this was across levels, MDs and Analysts alike are very friendly and approachable
My managers were very conscious that as an intern it was a good opportunity to get feedback and learn. As a result I was given weekly exercise which they could assess me on. Many of them were a fair reflection of the work that I would be doing on the desk and it was a good chance to apply what I had learnt and confirm it.
I would say that I chose desks where the work was on a flow basis. Consequently I got into a good routine at the start. There are daily deadlines and there is pressure to make sure that the tasks are completed on time. It is important to learn how to balance it as the amount of work is always relative to the perspective that you have.
I was working to the level of an Analyst however the perk of being an internship is that you could ask questions to the more senior members so that you learn on the tasks. That was important as it allowed you to take tasks further.
I think I learnt a lot about myself and have always had confidence in my abilities and was happy to see that many of the skills I had were applicable to the job. That is probably the most rewarding part of the job as it allows you to add your flair and originality to the tasks.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very open and friendly. Everyone was willing to speak to you and have a chat. As an open plan office sometimes it is difficult to find time where you can work quietly. That means that you have to learn how to work well. That means either you stay later or just learn how to work where it is very busy.
The Early Careers Team was very involved at the start to make sure that you were settled in. However, there was no smooth transition from the training to the desk. It felt like most of the technical training was put as the responsibility of your manager and the analysts. Thankfully they were very helpful so it was not too much of an issue.
I feel that the tasks I was given were up to the level of my skills so I regularly felt like I was given the opportunity to shine but also to improve. I would say that soft skill training and technical training were tested equally and you learn to appreciate the importance of the two.

We are yet to hear about the outcome but I would say that I got a good idea of what work at this firm would look like. A lot of the Analysts are open about their experiences and have sold the rotational programme well to me. I would definitely want to continue to work at this firm.
The Culture
There were no efforts to get interns together and it felt like you were just part of the Firm. In many ways that was good but if they are going to make an effort to integrate the interns they have to considerably improve as that was not made clear or was very poor if it was.
I worked from home so my cost of living was stayed the same. I wouldn't say that commuting into London was any different than what I normally did. Therefore I am not able to comment on this. I did not have a lot of socialising during this internship so no added expenses came from that.

There were no opportunities to get involved outside of work unless you personally made the effort to do so. You work very long hours and therefore it is hard to balance the two.
