The Role
I really enjoyed my internship - I thought the commnication throughout was great and I was really lucky with the line manager that I was given.
The office floor that I was on was very quiet, so I felt quite timid and shy at first - however, as I began to feel more settled, more conversations and laughter was had. I felt that as time progressed I was able to be my true self around colleagues, and so I felt integrated. This meant that they trusted me with work and I did feel a valued part of the team.
My line amnager helped me throughout the ten weeks. I think it helped that he wasn't that senior, so he was able to take lots of time to guide me.
The alst and first weeks were seriously quiet as I had no work to do and noone seemed to have any to give to me when I asked. There were times around the CSR challenge and project hand in where I needed to stay quite late in order to complete all my work. I think they should spread out these two things a bit more so that everything doesn't come at once. In general though I was busy in the days but never so busy that I stayed until really late.
I felt as though the work that i was doing was mainly adminstrational as there was a lot of it to do. This was fine, but it menat that I didn't use any of the training that we had and I felt as though i didn't get full exposure to the financial industry to the extent that I had wanted.
I didn't really learn that much technically within my department if i'm honest. However the internshiop did teach me a lot in terms of soft skills; for example how to interact with colleagues in a professional way. I learnt a lot from shadowing others in different departments.
The Company
It was wuite positive, although too quiet for my liking. I felt very consious every time that I spoke on the phone for example. We had a team day last week though whihc allowed a bit more integration.
I think it was very well organised by early career, and from my point of view I was very informed with everything that was going on. My line manager was also happy.
I don't think that i learnt that muhc to do with the industry within my placement, however i did learn a lot in the initial training by fitch - which i'm sure will stand me in good sted.
Company Parties/Events
Having spoken and networked with a lot of graduates - they all seem to be thoroughly enjoying their rotations and so it gives me great confidence that i would also enjoy a future place here. I really liked the office envirionment as a whole, and feel comfortably in the workplace.
The Culture
We had a team day last week and a couple of evenings where we went across the road for some drinks after work. That was fun!
