The Role
I enjoyed it very much, it was a complete and important experience that I believe every university student should have. It was not exactly what I was expecting, but still a great learning experience. It definitely helped me grow and become a better person and professional. I would not mind doing it again.
Everyone was very welcoming and supportive. One thing that I liked and did not think was possible was to be given actual responsibility on the desk and be able to work on actual projects. This was great and it made me feel like my work mattered. I do not think this kind of responsibility is given in other fields.
Lack of support was never an issue, as long as you looked and asked for it. No one would be looking after you, because they see you as an adult, but still they will help you if you ask for it. Still, I believe that more support from the Human Resources teams would be welcomed.
It varied between the two rotations. The first one was not busy at all, probably because it was the beginning of the summer, so there was not much to do related to markets. The second one was very busy, I often had to stay long hours and struggled to complete the work in time. Still, I liked the second one better.
Again, it depends on the rotation. On the first one, I was not given much responsibility, I was told what I had to do, but then everything had to be supervised by the team at the same time. O the second one, I was told what the team needed and was given the freedom to search for it and deliver the work in the best way I thought it could be.
The skills I developed (both technical and soft skills) will be of much help once I get back to school, because they will assist me on delivering better work and perform better in my exams, as well as once I start working, because here I learned how to behave in a professioanl way and how to handle an office job on a daily basis.
The Company
A little bit too quiet compared to what I was expecting. I thought people would be walking around the floor more and interacting with other teams on a daily basis. Instead, they did interact a lot with their own team and only when necessary would circulate around the office. Despite this, the atmosphere was good, most of the people looked excited about what they were doing, and a lot of them also looked exhausted because of the long hours worked.
It was okay, but it could have been better arranged.
They did not invest much, I think that more trainings would be required.
Quite a bit appealing.
The Culture
Yes, my fellow interns were all very nice and we got along very well.
Very expensive. Central London.
Not so bad, people went for drinks almost every week. But there were not many clubs around.
Not really.
