The Role
The team were absolutely fantastic - very supportive for me to develop and settle and keen for me to help them out.
Going to be very sad when I leave - developed a very close friendship with all of them.
My LM was on annual leave for some time, but when he was around, he was encouraging the managers to get me involved, sat down with all the interns several times a week and also made sure he taught us the basic knowledge of their trade - lending, financials, relationship management - in several lessons that lasted a few hours. All other managers provided fantastic support too though.
Some days I was too busy, others with very little on. For a while there were days where I was the perfect level of busy, where it was all planned and manageable and where I could ensure care in my work. There could be better management of the workload and in places extra work given.
Where I had the relevant knowledge and skills to be able to complete tasks I was given complete control. I really enjoyed this in the client facing aspects, taking to customers and dealing with their complaints and requests on a daily basis.
The training week has added little but the detail, care that I took in my work will aid me in my studies. Most importantly I can now see how the practical implication of decisions plays out and how to manage these.
The Company
With the LM around there was a modicum of seriousness but when he was away everyone in the office was constantly laughing. Everyone was very supportive too.
HR and my LM/office appeared to have little contact. HR were very disconnected and my team were effectively left to themselves to sort out what I had to do, when and everything else. Very disappointed by them as I feel they added incredibly little to the process and when I had questions these were never answered.
The internship was a complete training and development process in itself.
The graduate process looks very appealing - I feel I now have a foot in to getting an exciting and genuinely important and rewarding job with a big company that I'd love to work for.
The Culture
Not particularly with the other interns as there were only 4 in the office but we all socialised with the others in the office which was fantastic.
Very high - my office was in Knightsbridge down the road from Harrods.
A nice pub over the road for a few drinks but that's it.
The time period was too short to actively get involved and my location too remote.
