The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my time with RBS, predominantly due to the people I was working with on a day-to-day basis. The entire team was accommodating, informative and constantly sought to improve my placement in any way possible. There were small issues - almost exclusively outwith my team - but my working environment was great.
Definitely felt valued - colleagues appreciated the work I produced, were comfortable showing it to customers, and even asked for assistance with some of their tasks (largely IT related)
Decent extent - if I had any issues I would have felt comfortable going to my LM.
At times very busy, but largely with 'busy work' involving data logging, contact information checking or small administrative tasks. Felt that while I was working, I wasn't necessarily pushed/learning anything new.
A decent amount; I produced work directly for customers, though this wasn't that frequent.
I've benefited enormously from a 9-5 experience, and believe the work ethic I've developed will be helpful for the future. Also gained a much better understanding of finance/banking.
The Company
Within my department the atmosphere was fantastic - professional yet friendly - but there was an ongoing feeling of despair with a lot of group wide policy decisions. IT systems were nightmarish at times, and it felt like decisions were made without a huge amount of consultation with the 'on-the-ground' staff.
Not particularly well. Sent to the wrong office on the first day, didn't receive access to vital systems until well after the initial start.
Got a good amount of training + development - I'm happy with the process.
Good - would prefer more scope for transferring between teams. Got the impression you were 'locked in' to your stram.
The Culture
Fantastic amongst interns.
Fairly standard.
Decent.
Few.
