The Role
I really enjoyed the internship and it was alot more interesting than I expected. I was placed in a really good team and was given a number of different projects to work on throughout. I also got to meet and work with a number of really senior people in the bank.
All my collegues where very friendly and they appreciated the interns presence. A number of them would ask me to do small and big pieces of work, which they gave thanks on. Often, if we knew how to do something they would ask us for help. Also they really valued our opinions and ideas often taking them onboard in our team. We were treated like collegues not just interns.
My supervisor was really helpful and I felt comfortable going to him for any queries. We had catchup sessions to find out how I was doing and he checked everything was going ok with my work and if i needed any additional help.
Throughout the internship I always had a steady workflow, sometimes with a range of projects going on at once. As you progress during the internship you do get busier, however if you dont feel busy, I was easy to ask for more work. Due to me requesting a particular project with strict deadline, my last few weeks were really busy, but I enjoyed the work I was doing.
I was given alot of responsibility during my internship and was really suprised by this. It felt really good to know the work you were doing was important and actually useful to the bank. The projects I worked on, if they were not completed on time, then there would be a problem as I was trusted with the responsibility.
During the internship I identified a number of my weaknesses and highlighted them to my line manager who then actively helped me work on these and will really help me back at uni
The Company
My office and especially my team where very friendly and approachable. Regardless of theuir seniority, people where always happy to talk to you and give up their time for you. There was a good balamce of work and fun in the office
The internship was set up ok. However there where a number of communication issues between HR and interns. For example we didnt know what area we were in until the first day in the office. For intern projects we were given very littl einstructoin from HR and somehow had to figure out between us what we had to do
The firm gave us access to a huge range of online training modules and programmes that we could enrol in and complete at our lesiure. My line manager was really goo to me in terms of helping me develop as well - it was tailored to me.

Good. RBS is a really friendly and welcoming enviroment with a good work balance. I would definately like to work here in the future. Also there a good systems being set up to onboard new employees. Unsure on intake
The Culture
Luckily I was in a sociable team with other interns. Therefore there were a number of gatherings throughout the 10 weeks but nothing really set up by HR
I decided to live at home due to the high costs of renting in London. The socialising was somewht expensive, but this was expected in London.
There was a pub opposite the office and a number in the surrounding area
I was quite busy. But RBS didnt really offer any out of work activities to me
