The Role
I found the experience invaluable and really worthwhile. I was given a huge amount of responsibility from day one and really felt part of the team. RBS makes a huge effort to integrate you into the organisation by providing you with a point of contact (buddy) before you even start working. This system really made me feel confident when I started my job on day one. Overall, I would highly recommend working for RBS. The experience has taught me a lot and made me realise that I would like to pursue a career in HR.
My experience in this area was variable. On a positive note, from the moment I started within my specific placement, I felt valued and was treated like every other member of the team. I felt really comfortable speaking to people as most people were friendly and engaging. I really appreciated the effort made by colleagues in my department to share their knowledge and get to know me on a personal note. In contrast, I felt disappointed with my experience with the Early Career team. In my experience, they were very difficult to communicate with and didn't seem interested in helping me settle into my role and develop. This could be greatly improved!
My line manager was exceptional at providing guidance and feedback. She insisted on having 1-1s with me on at least a weekly basis. She really pushed me and aided my development. My line manager is a real credit to RBS.
I was placed within a relatively small team and was therefore given lots to do. I was treated the same as a normal employee and was always given more to do if I asked. I found my team to be very flexible in agreeing workload.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility in my placement. I led my own project within my team. This made me feel valued by my team and the organisation
I consider the experience to be invaluable. The skills I have developed will help me progress in my future career. The networking opportunities were a huge bonus!!
The Company
Everyone was friendly and approachable. Most people took the time to speak to me and share their experiences .
I feel the internship could be much more organised. Communication from the Early Career team to our line managers and us as interns could be improved. There was a lack of clarity around what was expected from all parties. Deadlines set by Early Career (CSR, project/presentation) were very close together and it made the experience quite stressful. On a positive note, the development opportunities (listening lunches, etc) were well organised and provided great insight into the organisation.
It was clear to me that the company had invested a lot in to developing us. I would recommend tailoring the personal training and development to specific programmes.
Overall, my experience has been very positive. I would really like to work within RBS again
The Culture
There was a great social scene and lots of opportunities to get to know each other.
N/A - I commuted from my student accommodation.
