The Role
I found the induction weeks, events and networking all really exciting and i enjoyed this aspect of the Internship. I found the work to begin with refreshing and challenging and I enjoyed the projects I worked on. I do feel that further development in these projects to see the end to end process would have made the Internship more enjoyable and valuable as an experience. Overall I would say the Internship was ok, with improvements that could be made but definitely holding some positive aspects throughout.
The valuation placed on myself and my career development was poor, I felt as if my personal development was ignored. My team were great to work with and I managed to receive lots of career advice throughout the Internship, qualifications to look into and more information regarding the banks business.
I received some guidance on my presentation skills, in the form of a short meeting with my line managers deputy, which resulted in my development of my presentation skills improving. However I feel that more support and guidance could have been given in other skills in the role. My managers were very good at offering me shadow days in different departments which was fantastic in terms of my networking and increasing my understanding of the different business areas.
Throughout the Internship I was given lots of work, I had a main project that I worked on throughout, however I feel this task became very repetitive and dull after an amount of time had passed thus by the end of the Internship I felt no challenges were present in the work i was doing and this made the work dull and mundane. However in terms of workload I received a sheer volume of work which kept me busy, however the quality of the work in terms of my self development and skills base is questionable.
Typical responsibilities were diary management, working with customer information, organising team meetings, holding talks/speeches in team meetings. In this aspect I received exposure to presentational talks in a business enviroment which was a good responsibility and skill to improve.
The skills I have gained will benefit in my career in the future through presentational speaking styles and working on live projects with real responsibility. The only thing that I will take with me to my degree studies is my ability to manage a diary and stick to time schedules which i can use to maximise my study productivity with my degree
The Company
A good working atmosphere with plenty of opportunity to work with new people and discover new skills
The organisation from HR was perfect however at times it felt as if this did not feedback into the line managers and departments well.
Little. However promises have been made in regards to development in qualifications etc on the grad scheme.
Company Car
They recruit many graduate opportunities however i feel a switch across placements is limited therefore the internship may restrict you to that division on the graduate scheme. They do offer in the future a paid qualification to further your career which is a benefit.
The Culture
Lots of social events, throughout the organisation and with fellow placement colleagues.
i commuted and the train was £430 a month, however the salary paid should be enough to cover living costs in the area of work even central london.
