The Role
It was a good opportunity to learn more about CPB but in terms of real learning I think I can vary on where you get put, which you can't change for the whole 10 weeks. I was given much more long term projects which I appreciated but its important to have the right balance with that sort of work and more hands on day to day work in order to get some real learning. However in terms of evaluating your performance to be considered for a graduate position I think this was poor, We are given matrixes that our LM's will value us on, however because they vary so much and the fact that I feel its unlikely during the levelling process that any other LM's will speak out against other interns, you can be given a much higher rating compared to someone else despite potentially not being as high a performer.
My work environment was supportive and relaxed and they were appreciative of the work I was doing.
At the start contact with my LM was very minimal and so I think that could be improved, but after requesting more direct communication my LM was very open to sitting down and having a chat about what I've been doing and what I wanted to achieve over the remaining course of the internship each week.
Because I was given more long term projects, with a lot of them just keying in data, not very. It would have been given to given more short term work assisting relationship managers with dealing with their customers which would provide more valuable learning to me as well.
I was given more responsibility as the internship went on which I liked, as an intern there is only so much responsibility to be given however.
Probably the most tangible learning I gained was with dealing with accounting data, however I had to push for this. Other than that it would be just general behaviour in a work office environment.
The Company
Positive
My LM was open to what key learnings I wanted
Company Parties/Events
I would like to come back but I think the way in which they evaluate interns needs to be improved. Considering that, despite thinking I have performed well and my LM echoing that saying I should be proud of the work I've done and if it was up to me you would get the job, the internal HR process to decide which interns get selected for the grad scheme might mean despite that the chances are slim
The Culture
Yes I was taken to Lords and numerous work drinks and it was a good opporunity to get to know the team in a more informal environment which helped build a rapport in the office too.
