The Role
I have learnt loads and it's been brilliant. I have been able to meet so many people and see different projects from a business perspective. The opportunities have been fantastic and you could get invovled as much as you liked.
I couldn't ask for better colleagues. They were happy to drop whatever they were doing to give me adivce if i asked whenever (or agree a suitable time). We do lots together as a team and i even found out yesterday that one of my colleagues cancelled her holiday to be around on my last day.
i couldn't have got a better manager. He was able to provide guidance not only around my direct work, but we also talked through everything and discussed different approaches (e.g. how to unite a team, how to bring people on board) and theories and how these could be applied. He'd done the grad scheme a few years ago and knew how to make the most of starting off in the company.
I'm really busy but only because i like doing work so much and also i have been given two big projects to lead on so i can esentially spend as much or as little time as i want depending on my standards and also work seems to follow the phrase "if you want something done, give it to a busy person". I can set my own hours and it's flexible working which is good too.
As i went through the placement i gained responsibility and on bigger and bigger projects. I'm now responsible (in practice but not technically) for resolving over 1,000 people's pay issued and also reviewing the Management Informtion reports and strategy for a multi-million pound system. I don't think i could be held culpable if it went wrong but i can take it as far as i want.
I haven't started my degree yet so it's hard to say but i think the skills gained are invaluable and will be a great help through university, life and my career.
The Company
I really enjoyed and there was lots of banter and chat about family, friends etc. however, everyone worked really hard and pulled together where needed. Occaisonally someone would get freaked out over work levels but the support offered by everyone is really good.
The scheme was great; integrated into the business and with training. When i arrived all my equipment was ready and i got a good introduction. Newnet, the inclusion and diversity group for newstarters, was excellent in helping new people, primarily students meet each other and learn about the business.
Training was provided as were talks by senior directors etc. My manager and other colleagues/'managers spent a lot of time talking and showing me about their work. Anybody, no matter how senior could always find time to talk to you about your work or whatever you wanted. There was also the opportunity to present to senior managers and directors and the "new talent" night as well as going out for meals.

The Culture
Being based at the headquarters there was a lot of students there who would get together for pub quizes etc and also work provided lots of social events.
i stayed at home so i have nothing to compare it against as i've always paid the same amount.e
Again, i don't know anything different.
