The Role
I really enjoyed the work I did. It was really interesting and my line manager gave me lots of interesting projects to do.
I felt really valued by my colleagues as they really engaged with me and we attended many drinks after work to get to know me. they also gave me some work to do which helped my development.
My manager was really switched on and really concerned about my development and what I would get out of the programme. I really enjoyed working with her and she really made my time at RBS what it was.
I was kept really busy - my days begun at 9am and sometimes i didnt finish until 1830. However, my line manager never forced me to stay any longer than i wanted and was really supportive.
I was given a lot of responsibility very early on and my line manager was really focussed on my development and improving my experience. she slowly increased the workload until the end of the internship where I was essentially doing graduate level tasks.
I really developed my written and verbal communication skills and became more confident in the workplace.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was really vibrant and friendly. employees were always willing to chat and everyone was really helpful and supportive of each other. there were times when it was really quiet because everyone had a lot of work to do, but this wasn't always the case. I really enjoyed talking to my colleagues in the office and they were really personable.
the internship was very well structured and organised really well. there was a group project which all interns had to complete in groups, as well as a CSR project that we completed in teams (and gave us a break from the office). there was a mid and end of intership review where my line manager gave me lots of feedback and really helped my development.
I felt like RBS, my team and line manager really invested in me and my development, I felt like a valued member of the team (even though i was only there for 10 weeks) and really enjoyed working in my team. my employees always encouraged me to branch out and take on more responsibility, as well as take chances to learn more the different areas of RBS.
Company Parties/Events
I really like RBS as an organisation and really hope to be able to join them as a graduate. I hope to be able to explore more of the bank once I join as a graduate.
The Culture
There wasnt much of a social scene and interns had to organise events amongst themselves. I think there should have been more networking drinks organised for interns as this would have helped us to explore more of the bank and learn more about the different areas of RBS, as well as expand our network. there was only really a social scene within my team.
I was fortunate to live in London in my family home, so I didnt experience the brunt of high London living costs. however, the commute was terrible, particularly as I had to get up early in the morning to come to work. the cost of socialising wasnt too bad as there are many cheap bars etc around the Liverpool Street area which I went to with my team.
I didnt really experience the nightlife
My team organised a volunteering day for us where we went to a special needs school and helped the children during their sports day. It was a really enriching experience and I was able to bond with my team really well. my team also arranged drinks for us which I attended. however, other than this, there wernt many other opprtunities for me to get involved in outside of work.
