The Role
The internship overall was very insightful, very enjoyable and a good learning experience in term of soft-core and technical skills.
I worked in Real Estate Finance, during my internship there was a restructuring going on in the team. I was given responsibility however at time finds myself with lack of work to do. Everyone was extremely supportive and willing to spend the time to help out.
My line manager made a lot of effort and time to make sure that I had hand on learning experience. He organized client meetings and rotation, shadowing opportunities at other department in the building. My manager was very helpful and spend a lot of my time to give me the pastoral care needed.
This varies from day to day. But I often find myself asking for more responsibilities. There were days where I need to spend extra hours after work to complete tasks. This depends on the team in Commercial Banking that interns are allocated to. The time pressure really come when the deadline for the core project and CSR come up in 2 consecutive weeks.
As mentioned, this depends on team and what deals there are available. I helped to write reports, complete covenant tests and keying in financial accounts.
I definitely learned a lot in term of adopting the right attitude to work in a professional environment. On assisting my university studies, there is not a lot of cross over but my knowledge and analysis skills gained from university was helpful for the job.
The Company
Everyone was welcoming, chatty and very friendly. The team has a good support system. I am very happy to be able to contribute in this. I was expecting more team activities..
The program is very well structured. My line manager and the HR kept me very well updated.
A lot. We spent a lot of time receiving training (technical knowledge) on the very first week in London.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
There is a promise of a job offer after the program given you excel in the internship. Opinions of existing staff of RBS as a work place is very positive. There is a lot of flexibility for movement.
The Culture
No, not really
Birmingham living cost is low soi managed to have some savings after my internship. There were pubs around the office, convenient for after work drinks.
It was summer time so there were not many night out activities going on.
We are asked to do a CSR challenge on the 8th week.
