    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I've enjoyed lots of my internship, especially the people that i have met on it, both the staff that i've worked with and the other interns on the scheme have been great. Some aspects have been hard, it's difficult to feel like you're constantly being assessed but i suppose that's the nature of the internship.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • On RBS markets you get two rotations. My first was in fixed income and i was on the relationship management desk, i was allocated quite a lot of work and felt like i did add a good level of value to the desk. My second rotation was within fx where i wasn't really allocated any work that would benefit the business. This section felt much more like an extended job interview rather than a job.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There's an effective line manager and buddy system, i felt like i received sufficient help being brought into the process but sometimes found it hard to go around the floor myself and introduce myself to other members of staff. Again this is probably a feature of most internships rather than specifically RBS.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the first 5 weeks i was allocated enough work to be actively busy, i enjoyed this. In the second 5 weeks in fx i was busy on two weeks when preparing for the two presentations that i had, however for the majority of the time i wasn't very busy.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Again, for the first 5 weeks i was given quite a lot of responsibility however for the second five weeks i was given practically none.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There was a lot of people skills developed. It's the first time i've had to act with lots of others in a professional environment and this was definitely a learning experience. I've also gained some good product knowledge into a industry that i've never been exposed to before. Nothing that i've learnt on the internship will actually me with my degree (economics)

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I've enjoyed working with lots of the people within RBS so in that sense that atmosphere is really positive. However RBS, especially CIB, isn't the most profitable business and you sometimes get the sense that changes are still to come.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was organised efficiently, the line managers and people inside the business could probably have been better informed but overall i knew what i was doing.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lots of people were willing to give you there time to learn so that was a positive investment in you. We also had a training week but i'm not sure how much that benefited us.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Unsure, decision to be made tomorrow. However the sucess rate in previous years has been arounf 30-40%

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, i got along well with my fellow interns and there was a good weekend/ after work environment.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in student halls in Bethnal green and i cost £169 a week. You can make it cheaper or more expensive, especially with lunch, but on the whole it's expensive.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good, very close to shoreditch.

    4/5
