The Role
The internship did not started really well as RBS is the only bank that doesn't pay for your transportation and your accommodation which is something that I found really cheap. Training at the beginning was not that great and is not really useful, you are left completely in the dark most of the time without any idea of what you are supposed to do. You are not given any real work and are supposed to just go around and take coffee with people. You have a lot of downtimes moments where you just wait for things to pass. In addition, the CIB business is not doing great here and you are not given many information on that. Overall it was not really a good internship compared to other summer I have done and to my friends's internships
It's a rotational programme, so it really was up to your team. In some of them we ended up with some graduates that were not really good in finance and gave us wrong advices and wrong information making it harder for us to really get any work done or learn anything. On most desks people are not really happy to have interns and just tell you to go around and talk to people
Not a lot of support. We were just told to go around and talk to people
Not busy at all. During some days I just waited the entire day doing nothing because they did not wanted to give us work and the people that we were supposed to be talking to were busy
None whatsoever
If learning how to take a coffee with people and pretend that you are interested in what they are doing will help me in my studies then I might have received something from the internship but it's really unlikely
The Company
Most people were quite chill
A lot of downtimes moments where you have nothing to do. HR keep you in the dark all the time, you have no real idea of how the internship is going to be organised. Things change all the times, all the interns are not treated the same way. Overall not great
I didn't thought as if they were really investing in you
Subsidised Canteen
CIB business is downsizing and I don't think that the brand name is really good and that futures opportunities within the bank are appealing
The Culture
We went out with the other interns but nothing was organized by the bank. Once again it's really bad compared to other banks
Quite expensive, but it's london
It's london so nice but pubs/clubs close way too early
