The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed the internship as a whole. I found the experience positively challenging and my knowledge and understanding of the financial industry increased exponentially.
I definitely felt valued and respected by all members of the organisation.
Support and guidance was definitely available, more so in some situations than others. At some points guidance was given to you, whereas at other points I had to slightly push for guidance.
This definitely varied. On some days I was super busy and rushed off my feet, on other days I had to go around the floor looking for people to shadow and work to do.
I feel this varied by desk and the complexity of the desk. On some desks that are very technical, understandingly not much responsibility is given as we are unable to use certain systems and don't have experience on the desk. For other desks which are slightly less technical, a lot more responsibility was given.
In terms of the level of knowledge and understanding, the things I learnt over the internship are extremely valuable. Some transferable skills such as excel will help me in my degree studies and beyond.
The Company
The general atmosphere is friendly. There definitely is a community feel where people work together and are genuinely friends. This was a welcoming environment to be in and very supportive.
The internship was very well organised on a 'bigger picture' level - we knew what we had to do and where we had to be, whereas organisation between rotations was less clear.
The company invested in me to a great extent. Over the whole internship, a lot of time was invested in my by the employees of the firm. Many people were genuinely happy to help explain things and improve my knowledge and understandings.
If i got a graduate offer, I would definitely take it.
The Culture
Yes, there was a community between the students/colleagues and many social events between us.
Cost of living is generally very high as expected in central London.
Central London - nightlife is fantastic.
Yes there were often many activities to do after work. You were able to do as much as you wanted in terms of other activities.
