The Role
It was good. It was a really good insight into the industry and the job that you would be doing. They expect you to know nothing when you first get there so they give you the basics and try and build you up from there. The work that we were given was challenging but not unapproachable.
I felt that everyone within the area understands the position that we are in. They have all been in the same situation where they don't know much about the industry, so in that sense people had a lot of time to explain everything that needed to be explained. Obviously, they are very busy so they don't always have time to speak, but they are very understanding.
We had 2 rotations in FX and one rotation in Fixed income and we were given a review at the end of each rotation. In that sense, we were able to get a good idea as to how we were doing and if we needed anything then they were able to help us out.
I was quite busy. There were times in the day that I wasn't sure on what to do. However, the internship is what you make of it, and you have to be proactive and use that time to go round to different desk and speak to as many people as possible to full understand the area and the products in which people are working
There is not really much responsibility in markets that you can be given. Also, due to the fact that we were not granted access to Bloomberg (internal decision), that meant that we were not really able to take on any responsibility and carry out projects that would be useful to our management, supervisors or those working on our desks
I wouldn't say that it will assist me in my degree studies, apart from the hard working ambiance that you have to get into which could translate into further studies. We were given excel training which was useful and could be useful beyond the internship. Further, we had to do presentations which obviously helped our confidence and presenting skills. Apart from that, the skills and training were very program specific so it will be useful within this area within this industry, but on a wider scale it won't be that applicable
The Company
it was hard working and very intensive.
The overall internship was organised but I feel it could hav ebeen better organised within the area. We didnt have a chance to choose which desks we were going to be put on. there were no intern events organised just for the interns. The communication between HR and the desks and HR and the interns was very bad and made it more difficult. It would have been useful to set up more events with grads and people that work there.
Financial Bonus
The Culture
Cost of living was High due to London expenses, but pay was sufficient to cover that.
good
There were a few opportunities, not a significant amount
