The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. I was given real responsibility from day one as I was doing the same work as my line manager. The are plenty of social events to get involved in and being in Edinburgh for the summer was fantastic.
I felt like a real member of the team from day one and not just a temporary member of staff. They respected my opinions and asked for my help and advice.
My line manager was fantastic. She supported me throughout the whole internship. There is a definite correlation between having an excellent line manager and enjoying your internship,
I was kept really busy during my internship which I was grateful for as I would rather be given real work than being bored. However, I would have liked more time to shadow other departments but my day to day jobs were too demanding so this was not possible.
I was doing the same work as my line manager. I led team meetings and ensured everyone was up to date with their tasks.
I think any office experience is good for future life. After working, I find I have a more mature attitude towards my studies which is reflected in my grades.
The Company
Really positive. The team I was in was great and the department (security and resilience, Services) is so interesting. everybody is really friendly and helpful.
the recruitment process was excellent, really quick but I found out my location quite late so I was rushed to find accommodation.
I fell I developed well in the internship but I did not have time to do any specific training.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I feel really positive about if I will get onto the grad scheme and I think there is plenty of scope to move around and explore different roles
The Culture
everyone is in the same boat so interns constantly organised stuff to do.
For Edinburgh, it was reasonable. (cheaper than London at least)
so much going on in Edinburgh, especially during the Fringe
Interns organise alot of events and occasionally the department did too.
