    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship was generally good - I feel as though I learnt a lot from my line manager and my team. I wouldn't necessarily want to work in my team in the long term but I think as an inital introduction into the banking industry it gave me a good overview as to the different areas of the bank and the way the bank works. I feel as though I would have benefitted from being able to experience client facing roles and other roles within operations and also that my experience would have been very different had I been in a different location.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • was integrated as part of the team from a very early stage and was able to contribute to team meetings and provide my input. I joined a very specialist, niche team and so from that perspective it was somewhat difficult to feel like a fully-fledged member of the team given that I had such a relatively short time period to learn a relatively large amount of information.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers, both immediate and senior were generally very helpful and gave me good guidance both for immediate work issues and in terms of more general business practice. I was not allowed to go to a different location to gain a broader experience of services as a whole which was frustrating, but apart from this, my general guidance was good.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The first few weeks of the internship were very very slow. My line manager was on holiday when I joined my team and so I was largely left with very little work for the first week or so of the internship. Thereafter I very much found that the work came in phases - I would regularly go from being very busy to having nothing to do - the last week in particular was very very slow because all of my team were away and so I was the only member of my team actually in the office.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given some responsibility from the beginning and was given a few small projects to manage - however, these seemed relatively menial in comparison to other tasks that I could have been given - my managers said that my work was important but it often felt as though I was being keep busy with relatively menial tasks and projects that I was being asked to "manage" to just give me a facade of responsibility.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and general business experience I gained from the internship was potentially the most valuable part of the internship however this was very specific to me because I learnt alot specifically from my line manager due to his extensive experience at the bank.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Generally fairly relaxed - largely depended on the work load and other factors

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • RBS is shrinking massively and my office was not particularly dynamic - having said that I think my experience would be very different if i was in a different team and office

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we all lived together- he social scene was... good.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5
