The Role
I felt that my internship provided me with a fantastic insight into Operations in RBS. I contributed to many business-readiness tasks and the work given to me felt tailored to my needs.
My colleagues in the team I was placed in were friendly, helpful, and funny- a perfect mix! They made me feel extremely welcome and supported me in any way that they could.
My line managers were always checking on me to ensure that I was OK in whichever task that I was doing. I felt that I could always ask them for help in any manner of activities, from work tasks to settling in to my location. The only downside is that throughout my internship my line mangers changed. This was a shame for whilst they were all great, there was little consistency.
My team was involved in a whole host of business-readiness tasks, and as a lot of these required very little specialist knowledge- just a lot of time and effort- I was constantly busy. My team were extremely friendly and supportive, and so whenever I felt a bit too overwhelmed with the amount of work I had been set I could easily discuss expectations with them. Because of this I acheived a perfect balance.
Lots- as I was contributing to a business readiness task I was often the final person to check and edit the products before they were sent out to the customers. I really enjoyed this and thrived because of it.
My workstream was very specified and my degree is arts-based, so I doubt that many of the skills learnt will be of immediate use to me. However, I learnt a lot about working in a large company, and in an office, and so I will take many things forward.
