The Role
I have really enjoyed the internship. Everyone wants to help you and get to know you. The work itself was not what I wanted to do but I was able to network onto another project. This did cause some tention in my nuclear team but I enjoyed having a more diverse role.
Generally my voice was heard. In some cases the senior management wanted to hear my opinion more than my direct manager and the lower levels of the company.
I was allocated a buddy who was currently a grad. She was really helpful and gave me an insight in the future of my career. I also was allocated a senior advisor who was instrumental to me with any challenges I had in my team. All my work collegues were extremely supportive and wanted to help. I have even contacted people in other parts of the world and asked to talk to them and they have all been very willing. There are women in technology groups and other support groups that can also give you advice. My manager was very busy and so I did not get much support from her.
Very busy because I also took on an extra project. A lot of my work was also due in very tight (almost impossible) dealines so it was pressured.
Some responisbility but most of my work was sent through the team.
The skills I have learnt are not to do with my degree and my degree has not helped me in my role.
The Company
Very friendly and nice to be a part of. It is open plan and people often stop by my desk.
Initially the internship was not well organised as I did not hear where I would be working or what role until the week before. So it was hard to organise accommodation. During the internship there were some really fantastic talks and networking events and these were well communicated each week by HR.
I took part in a strength finder test to work out what strength I have. There was lots of internal training and I was allowed to do extra training when I did not understand an area. Through networking and talks with very high powered employees I was able to also learn. The Firm invested a lot of time and effort into the interns and it really made you feel valued.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
Very appealing. They really invested in my future and I think they value the work of their employees.
The Culture
Yes, I spent most evenings on social events. Some formally organised by the firm so organised internally. It was a great chance to network and meet the senior management in a more relaxed setting.
Very expensive - it is London!
Good, we are around lots of other offices and it is easy to get to other parts of town.
Some, I did a corportate responsibility day where I worked in a chariety. They also put on talks but I was in the wrong location to take advantage of them.
