The Role
I got a quick insight and really got a beginner understanding into the corporate world. JP Morgan gave many opportunities to fully develop my learning. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend the experience for those looking for the future. I am highly satisfied with my experience in this internship.
My team and other colleagues were very helpful through out the whole experience. I was given a lot of guidance and given roles which required me to practice many of my skills. I was given far more responsibility as my team valued my ability and allowed me to carry out the daily tasks.
I was given a lot of support and guidance throughout my internship. I was provided a buddy who was like a mentor and he offered to give me a lot of advice and guidance through out. Also we were given great exposure where we got an opportunity to communicate with senior people, such MDs and EDs too who gave guidance.
At first, I wasn't that busy. This is because I started during month end and did not know all the processes and therefore my team were busy and I could not work straight away. After that, within 3-4 weeks, I learnt most of the daily tasks and had a few projects to start on. The last 5 weeks flew by as I was much more busy, carrying out daily tasks and balancing time effectively to carry out my projects too.
At first, I was not given a lot of responsibility because I didn't know many of the tasks that required to be completed. As the internship went on and I learnt more in the role, I took part in far more of the daily tasks and really felt part of the team. I was given much more responsibility and these allowed me to develop far more skills.
Many of the skills required skills that you need to use in every day life. You need to be able to balance time effectively and communicate effectively with people around you. I also managed to use all the theory I have learn in my degree and other studies and put it into practical use. I am certain that the skills and training I have developed has made me more equipped for future study and working situations.
The Company
In my office, there was a fair balance between working late hours and working hard and also, socials where we went out for lunch or dinner and a few drinks. There was good communication across teams and we all got along. This made it easier to have fun whilst working,.
It is fair to argue that this internship was organized fairly well. We were kept up to date with all important dates and the whole internship ran smoothly with a number of intern events. The only slight issue was that we started during quarter end so the first week was really busy.
The firm were highly willing to invest in me. I took part in several training courses to benefit me in my LOB and also just gain an overall understanding of different skills and roles with in the firm. I feel that company allowed me to gain most exposure allowing me to train and develop to my full potential.

The future employment prospects in the organization are very appealing. With the internship I took part in, if you are offered the grad job, you work in a 3 year rotation. This is appealing as you get a chance to diversify your training and learning early on in your career and choose the path that suits you and your strengths the most. I believe this is vital in career development.
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst fellow placement students and colleagues. We all got along really well and often met up for social events such as going out for dinner or drinks. This allowed us to share our knowledge and this benefitted us whilst we were doing our internship and no doubt for the future too.
Being in London is obviously very expensive. Socializing and the cost of living is significantly higher than other areas but this is expected. There are many places to live and socialize, however, you have to be willing to pay marginally higher than other areas.
Canary Wharf can be really busy at night, especially on Thursday and Friday nights. It is a usual for people to go out for dinner and drinks near the end of the week so it can get really busy. Although it is expensive, there is a lot of variety and you know you can have a good time.
There are many opportunities to get involved in outside of work. There was corporate social responsibility programs with social events after. In addition, division specific events such as a finance dragon boat race followed by a bbq. We also organized a grads vs interns football game. These activities offer a good balance alongside the work.
