The Role
I really enjoyed my internship; it was both challenging and fun. I've learnt a great deal and have developed my technical skills and also my banking and finance knowledge. I enjoyed every aspect of the job from the work, to office life. The past 10 weeks have been eye opening and a great experience.
My colleagues were extremely welcoming when I joined the team and have been very helpful in helping me to adjust to the work life and helping to learn more about finance and how the bank works. They made me feel valued by allowing me to do important pieces of work and making me feel part of the team.
My manager supported me throughout the whole process and I always felt I could ask questions if I was stuck or I need of help. I was guided through the job, but not too much as I was still allowed to discover things on my own and that was the perfect balance. I am very grateful to have such a great manager.
I was busy every day of my internship, but it was in no way too stressful of anything I couldn't handle. I constantly had work or projects to complete but with the support of my team i was able to complete all my work to deadlines and never bored at any moments.
I was given more responsibility during my internship then I imagined I would. It was great; I was trusted to create reports and slides for important meeting that took place and to help other business areas.
The technical skills I have gained will assist me a lot in my degree as I will need to use excel and Powerpoint, and also the finance skills I have gained will be very helpful to me as I will be taking an accounting course next year. All the skills I have learnt will be extremely helpful beyond my studies as I will most likely be joined a banking graduate scheme.
The Company
The atmosphere is great. Although everyone was hard at work and there were many busy periods during my internship, the office environment was never too stressful or overwhelming. All the people across the floor were very sociable and friendly so I was a great environment to be in, especially when joining on the first day.
It was much organised, on my first day I new exactly what I would be doing and what projects/ deadlines I would across the course of my internship. When my manager was on holiday I knew exactly who would be over seeing my work. Also all the files I used were very nicely organised on the system.
I was given banking training and also went to training sessions for TM1 the new planning system.
I would definitely come back in the future to work for Lloyds Banking group through the graduate scheme, and I’d also enjoy working for the team I have been in as I have learnt so much and know it would be a job that I would enjoy in the future.
The Culture
The social scene was good, I was always welcome to join colleagues after work for drinks when I wanted and whilst at work everyone was very sociable.
I lived at home with my family and so I dont't know about the cost of living but it is expensive in London.
As I was living at home during my internship I didn't go out much clubbing, though I went for drinks at local pubs at it was great fun, but expensive.
