The Role
I really enjoyed the placement - I met some wonderful people, got real practical legal work experience and great support and socials. It was really well organised and went so quickly! Never a dull moment - kept really busy!
Your principal and trainee buddy makes sure you have work to do and is your first contact for any queries that you might have. They make you feel completely at ease and welcome - lots of the people there have done vacation schemes themselves and are more than happy to help.
Feedback is central to the Linklaters ethos and so on every piece of work people will give you feedback which is crucial to your development. This is really brilliant considering how busy everyone is - they all take the time to go over what you have done and will answer any questions you may have.
I found the work balance perfect - not too must work that I was stressed or concerned or couldn't enjoy it, but enough to keep me busy and interested. Certain departments are better placed to offer the variety of work but I found that almost every task I did was different. And even if you have a quiet moment you have your own project to work on, and I found it useful to conduct research into the department training sessions to stay ahead of the game.
You are given real trainee work and research to do because part of the placement is designed to give you a practical insight into what trainee day to day life involves. However everything that you do is checked and feedback given. It's really rewarding work and you have access to all the research materials that you would have as a trainee.
I have developed many key practical skills and built upon my theoretical knowledge from my degree.
The Company
Its an office and so people are busy but the atmosphere is brilliant - Links has an open door policy and you can drop in and ask questions etc wherever necessary.
The internship was fantastically organised to stagger practical graduate recruitment presentations and case studies and office days so that you are not constantly in and out the office, you will instead have for example a whole day out the office in presentations and then several full days in the office, but these are supplemented by socials in the evenings to ensure you have a varied day and always have contact with other interns and the graduate recruitment team are always on hand to help.
They organise several practical skill sessions during the scheme.

The Culture
Everyone got on really well and met up when there were no socials organised. I am sure we will all stay in touch afterwards. It's amazing how well people get on and how quickly you get to know each other! It's important though because potentially these are the people you could be training with in the future...
Its London - its expensive - but if you go to the right places its fine. And the socials are all paid for by the firm.
Most people organised to go elsewhere due to cost etc but this was not a problem.
Encouraged to get involved with pro bono and any sports teams etc.
