    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement was really good because I was given responsibilities and interesting jobs/projects, as opposed to just admin work or making coffee like other companies. There are many other interns and graduates working there as well, so it was good to have a community of us whereby we can learn from each other and help each other out.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was always willing to help and support me in a way that wasn't micromanaging me. If I messed up he would see it as a learning curve, rather than getting annoyed over something that went wrong. This also reflects my wider team as they were always willing to help me and encouraged me to ask questions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The way may job worked was that there would be really busy periods and other times where there wasn't a lot to do. The first couple of months were a bit of a slow start also. If I didn't have anything to do, I was encouraged to be proactive by creating my own projects or researching our competitors and other industry related information.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • By the time my placement ended I did have some responsibilities, although not as much as I wanted. This is down to the nature of the business though; it's very hierarchical and whenever any decisions are made across any department it always needs to be signed off by someone senior.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned most skills on the job, rather than through specific scheduled training. The skills I did learn and develop will be invaluable going into my third year, though. Everything from computer and writing skills, through to time-management and general confidence has improved the past year. I don't study a business related degree, however my commercial and business knowledge has also massively developed.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is definitely not dull, but people can get quite stressed. I think this might be the same for any big organisation. My team, personally, had a good atmosphere but I know this might not be the same for other departments.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were provided with Microsoft Office training and we had a really good induction week. They also gave us a fundraising project where we got to work with other interns. The graduates are invested in more, though.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They encourage you to apply for their graduate programme, which if having working there for a year you might do quite well in, but nothing is guaranteed.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We all became one community and many of us lived with each other. Samsung didn't organise anything for us, but we came together naturally and organised events and things amongst ourselves. It really depended on how involved with other interns you wanted to be.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The offices are based in Surrey and London so it's quite expensive but the salary is good for an internship so we made it work well.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It depends on where you live. The Surrey offices weren't good for nightlife, but no one really lived in Surrey. Many people lived out towards London where the night life is better.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are fundraising opportunities that Samsung run and there's a good Christmas party, but other than that not really.

    2/5
