The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with LBG. I think LBG really values its interns and wants them to make the most out of their time spent within the Bank.
By the end of my placement I really felt like a member of my team. I was given real responsibility within my role and felt like I had made a valuable contribution to the work occuring in my department.
I had regular 121 meetings with my line manager to ensure that I was keeping on track and to discuss any issues I was having. My line manager also gave me a lot of support and guidance about what it would be like to work in the organisation as a full-time employee and advice about a general career within financial services.
Due to the nature of my work, I would go through periods where I would be very busy to times when I would have very little to do (usually this was while I was waiting for replies/data being sent to me). Luckily, Emerging Talent set up additional challenges for interns such as a fundraising competition that would occupy my time whilst waiting incoming data/information.
I was surprised at how much trust and responsibility I was given during my time with LBG. I was treated as a full-time, permanent employee within my team and as such was given real responsibilty. I was expected to deliver my work to deadlines and present my findings back to the department.
The internship has been a good experience to apply the theory I have learnt in university to a practical job role (particularly when using microsoft excel). The relationships I have built with colleagues will also be invaluable when working in roles throughout the financial services industry.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was very quiet which I found difficult to work in at times. However, the atmosphere is very relaxed and colleagues are able to listen to their music when not on calls.
Clear objectives are set at the beginning of the internship and progress is checked throughout the 10 weeks.
Help is provided should an intern want to develop a specific skill.
Subsidised Canteen
The internship is a good way to secure a role on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
There was a really good social scene among the interns, both during and after work.
The area I was based in was very cheap.
I was based in Leeds which is excellent for its nightlife.
I was not aware of any external activities organised through work however I'm sure if you searched for some you would find them.
