The Role
It was really enjoyable, the company was really friendly and I would want to work for this company in the future.
They entrusted a lot of responsibility to me early on, and made me feel valued as a normal member of staff.
My supervisor would tell me what I needed to do, but was nearly always there for me to ask questions if I needed to.
Sometimes things were a bit quiet, but generally there was a lot of things to be doing without being overloaded.
I had responsibility for a lot of things and some of my work was used for clients and within the department without having to be checked by my supervisor.
It showed me the skills I need to develop for this job in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere was very friendly at all times, and everyone could have a laugh even when deadlines were being worked to.
All the vacation scheme students knew where they needed to be every day and at all times, the whole experience was very well organised.
We had to set personal objectives to achieve before the end of the placement, which gave us something tangible to work towards.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Provided you meet a set standard over the placement you are likely to get a training contract, and this takes the pressure off to some extent as you are not in direct competition with other vacation scheme students, so you can relax and be yourself more.
The Culture
We had a social event every Thursday where we had a cocktail making class one week, and went to a comedy club the next week. There was also office drinks every friday in order to get to kno everyone in the office.
I found the cost of living to be a lot higher in Manchester than it was in Sheffield which is where I am from, but it was to be expected in a city that is a lot larger.
The nightlife was very varied, more so than the area I come from.
The firm has a strong committment to Corporate Responsibility and there were countless opportunities to help on the various schemes the firm is involved with.
