The Role
It was a really fun two weeks where I got a great insight into commercial law. The socials were fun and the trainees were friendly. It is a great way to really immerse yourself in the firm and gain a lot of experience.
Both my trainee buddies were very helpful and friendly. They explained tasks clearly and were always open to questions. Our partner/associate supervisors were busy but they still made time to offer advice.
I had a real opportunity to ask questions and get to grips with the department. Everyone is willing and keen to offer advice.
Of course, some days were busier than others but overall there was a good balance.
In a commercial law firm the trainees have their worked checked - a vac schemer can hardly expect a lot of responsibility. However, we did get given lots of work to have a go at.
Working in a commercial environment further prepares you for life in the workplace. I am not it will help much with my degree studies.
The Company
Whilst the lawyers were busy, everyone made an effort to chat and get to know you.
We were provided with a clear outline of our activities. My only criticism is that activities were weighted on the 2nd week which made preparing for the interview a bit more difficult.
The firm was keen to get me involved at every moment.
I am very keen to work for them, just have to wait to hear back after the interview! They offer a fantastic training contract.
The Culture
There were lots of opportunities to go out without the pressure to get blind drunk every night!
London is obviously very expensive.
The nightlife was great.
We were made very welcome at CSR and sports events.
