    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed all 10 weeks of my internship, all the way from training to everyday work to socials provided as part of the programme. I learnt a lot and was given a chance to discover sides of financial system that I did not know before.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an incoming intern, you might feel you will not be valued enough. However, the approach I have encountered was the complete opposite as all the work I have done (of course the quality of the work is important) was highly rewarded and I received a lot of credit for my work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All the people across the floor were very approachable - all the way from analysts to MD's. If I was not clear about certain tools, ways of completing a task, there was always someone to walk me through it, explain and review my work. My buddy and manager were also extremely helpful with guiding me through the internship.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During the first few days, you are learning a lot - therefore you are not busy that much with work but with your personal development. That changes throughout the internship towards the end as you become busy with everyday and project work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots of responsibility during an internship project, as it is usually a project you lead by yourself or in a group of 2-3 interns. During everyday tasks, responsibility is given to you to complete materials for the client - but always reviewed by a more senior member of the team.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I received a truly good skill set in Excel, Power point and financial modelling. All those 'tool' skills are definitely useful for my last year of university to assist me in completing my assingments. The knowledge of financial world has improved as well through a number of trainings, webinars and informatory newsletters.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It really depends on the team you work in, however the overall atmosphere was really good - a right balance between work and fun. You can approach people and ask them about their weekend and concentrate on your work at the same time. It was very friendly.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We were guided from the day one all the way to the final day of our internship. HR provided a great balance of training-social events for all the interns across all divisions. You can also approach them any time throughout the internship to ask for guidance.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Training is provided to all in the beginning, and then a number of training sessions throughout the internship to make sure you are learning all the time. The training in the beginning was however too focused on the Investment Banking division,

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I received an offer at the end of the internship - therefore I am planning on joining the Graduate scheme in September 2016 (completed the internship during the Summer 2015). The contract is for a 2 year scheme with a training in the beginning and a good chance of mobility.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene amongst fellow interns - you can expect lots of after-work drinks and night outs during the weekend. If you're lucky some of the sports balls also happen during the internship. It however depends on the team if you head for drinks with them.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in London, therefore the living costs are high and so is eating/drinks at Canary Wharf. Expect to pay a higher price for being based in London, however it is worth it to be based in the larger office. You can also bring lunch to the office (dont have to spend money on eating out every day).

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was a number of after-work pubs and bars at Canary Wharf - they can get extremely busy after 5, therefore if you are expecting a table, make sure you book. You can luckily escape the area and go to Central London which has plenty of bars and clubs for everyone.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • If you are into sports, there were lots of clubs you could join as an intern and play for the firm in the Wharf and City League. I also participated in the 5,6km race in Battersea Park, which was a great way to socialize with other interns and employees. You will also experience a charity day - it is a good fun and you help others!
