The Role
The chance for people interested in law to have an authentic experience. Very different from past work experience that I experienced at high street firms. Very enjoyable.
All colleagues were welcoming and friendly and eager to provide work and ensure that we were kept busy. Several people when they walked past in the office would stop and check that I was doing okay and that I had enough work to get on with.
Support was great- particularly from the supervisor. Regularly checking that I was happy and understood my tasks, also honest in their advice about the firm and a career in law.
Levels of work varied but there was never a day when I had nothing to do.
As a non-law student it is difficult to be given complex work that related to law, but I found that the work I was given was suitably difficult and challenging.
Developed awareness of the legal world, commerical acumen, and attention to detail skills.
The Company
Friendly: I was surprised by the welcoming atmosphere and the bond that exists between some members of the team.
Very well organised: we were provided with a detailed schedule two weeks prior to starting the placement. We were also allocated trainee buddies ahead of time who got in touch with us.
A lot of time was given from our trainee buddies and other members at the firm in order to provide us with advice and give us insight/explanations of the work that we were doing.
Subsidised Canteen
My experience at the firm was positive and I would be very interested in working for them in the future.
The Culture
Yes- again, I was surprised by the time allocated on social acitivities by the trainees and workers.
London: very expensive. Cost of renting very basic university accomodation was almost £200 a week.
Good, very varied and social events were organised by the firm.
Lots of sports and social acitvities were provided.
