The Role
The internship was a fantastic experience, both of great learning value and enjoyment of the work. I was very fortunate in having a greatly supportive team and a highly interesting workload. I would strongly recommend this to anyone - I would never have considered working for a bank before this opportunity came along. It has been a real eye-opener!
Greatly valued. I was made to feel a part of the team since day one. My team, and the wider office, could not have been more welcoming at the start - this was something they maintained throughout my entire time with the bank. I felt a real sense of belonging, and this helped me hugely in my interactions with colleagues and general confidence in carrying out work tasks. They could not have been more warm, encouraging and supportive of me during my time there and would always make time to talk me through anything I was unsure of.
The head of our department was keen to stay updated with my progress and met with me for a lengthy discussion at the end of my internship. My Line Manager scheduled twice weekly catch ups and would always make time to answer any questions I had, even in her busy schedule. She was happy to review pieces of my work before I submitted them should I feel the need, and would always give helpful, constructive and positive feedback.
I had 2 days of induction at the beginning, spending time with different members of the team working on varying aspects of the overall project; after the initial overview of the project however I really had to hit the ground running and the tasks came in quickly. I was always kept busy and my Line Manager was keen to ensure I didn't have too much/too little to do, often checking my workload with me. Occasionally (only due to me wanting to get through as many and varied tasks as I could during my short time with the bank) I did stay late or come in early to work, but otherwise it was very balanced. This also varied depending on whether I was out at another office or had many meetings to attend that day.
I was impressed and pleasantly surprised at the level of responsibility I had been given so early on in my internship. The team entrusted me with quite complex and important tasks as early as my second week, sometimes increasing as the time went on and I became more experienced in the project.
Hugely so. Gaining skills through experiencing the world of work will never be lost, whether it be time management, prioritisation or communication. Even becoming more fluent in Microsoft Office software will be a great help. I learned so much during the internship which was of help to me as I was completing work tasks but which will also remain with me and help in my next job.
The Company
The atmosphere was one of encouragement, warmth and support - everyone was friendly and positive and always made time to help each other. It was very open-door, non-hierarchical. A fantastic place to work and one I'm missing already! Every single colleague was supportive of one another and no-one cut across each other in meetings - people actively listened, they didn't just wait to be heard.
Excellent, my Line Manager set up a brief induction followed by a task which required collaboration with many members of the team - a great way to introduce myself and become acquainted with other colleagues. The tasks increased in complexity as the time progressed and I became more experienced, but the support I received never wavered throughout the internship. My buddy was also very helpful and set up networking events for the interns in our division. A charity challenge was also a fantastic way to bring interns together.
They made a real investment, both in time and money. I had the opportunity to spend time with different colleagues who were specialists in different software, for instance, which would be helpful to me further down the line; colleagues, as mentioned previously, spent a lot of time with me explaining different aspects of the project to me. This shows Lloyds really cared about their interns - I gained a huge amount from this.

Company Parties/Events
Very appealing - I have received a hugely positive impression of the bank from spending 10 weeks with them. I met so many friendly, approachable and hard-working people that I can only imagine this is a theme which runs through the entire bank and not only the division I worked in. The work is of a varying and challenging nature and I doubt it would be possible to become tired of it.
The Culture
Yes, interns were all keen to spend time with each other outwith the office, and colleagues often went out for a weekly work drinks or team meal.
Very fortunately Lloyds funded accommodation for interns who had to travel, however being in the city there are few budget supermarkets within walking distance.
I focussed mainly on socialising during daylight hours however the Edinburgh Festival was ongoing throughout the latter part of the internship which gave a great buzz around town.
Yes, I joined the team's Day To Make A Difference volunteering event, and was invited to team meals/work events. There were a few networking opportunities too.
