The Role
I really enjoyed the tasks that I was given.
I think because my team were quite low staffed due to holidays etc. they valued being able to give me jobs to take the strain off their work load.
I knew that I could ask my manager for any help and she would try her best to sort out whatever it was. I also knew that I could speak to my buddy and mentor whenever I needed.
To begin with and towarsd the enf of the placement I wasn't very busy. Mid-internship I got really busy and I much more enjoyed that
I was given jobs to work on by myself and it was my responsibility to ensure i met deadlines
Santander has provided me with a great introduction to the business world
The Company
This varied throughout the internship. Obviously there were busy times, so when this was the case the atmosphere was a bit more serious. However, when the team weren't so stretched for time the atmosphere was a really pleasant one to work in. I knew that I could have a chat and noone would get annoyed at me.
I think the initial stages of the internship were really well set up, and so was the introduction day however during my internship it didn't feel like there were specific jobs set aside for me. I think if it was more organised in terms of having work set out for me beforehand then I wouldn't have been so bored in the first couple of weeks.
I attended quite a few meetings and talks etc. throughout the internship however these were mainly down to me asking to go. I think in terms of development the company didn't push to try and develop me. There were a few things that I asked to attend and was turned down for.
I would be extremly happy to work for Santande rin the future. DEspite some negative comments above I believe a lot of them are due to me only being within Santander for 10 weeks. If i was here longer then I would be trusted with more jobs and get to expirience a lot more thing. Feedback from my buddy was also really good in terms of the grad scheme here.
The Culture
Not really. In the beginning few weeks we only really sat and had lunch together. It's difficult because barely anyone actually lives in Milton Keynes so everyone always has to drive and get home for other arrangements. We did go out a few times as a group though which was good.
Seemed pretty cheap. Most of the places to eat etc. are chains so it's pretty much the same as everywhere else. Living is quite expensive but because the office is so close to the station you can live outer Milton Keynes and then get the train in which means you'd probably pay cheaper rent.
It was ok. Milton Keynes isn't a uni town so I think it has a different feel to towns that are. Everywhere seemed pretty cheap and there seems to be quite a lot of options depending on what sort of night you want. Everywhere seems to be in walking diatnce from each other aswell so you don't have to spend money on a taxi going from place to place.
There were loads of quizzes run as all the interns had to run a quiz as a CSR project but apart from that there didn't seem to be much. I think if I was more interested in getting involved with things out of work e.g. sports then I could have found out some information but I wasn't to bothered about stuff like that.
