The Role
I enjoyed my internship very much. I was given a variety of projects to work for the duration and felt like I was trusted and valued.
I interned in Credit Risk, I wrote Risk recommendations which were then used to be presented to committee members. This is something that full-time Credit Partners would normally do. To be allowed to do this is a sign of enourmous trust.
I had a weekly 1-2-1's with my manager where we'd discuss my performance over that week.
The workload would vary from day to day, sometimes I'd have 2-3 cases to look at and deadlines within the same day, sometimes wouldn't be as busy.
This internship has hardened my decision that Finance and Risk is the right career choice for me. I'm looking forward to returning to university where I'll use concepts I learned in my work placement for my 3rd year dissertation. Apart from that, I'll have this experience to lean on when I apply for my future roles.
The Company
The atmoshpere is what you would expect from a bank. Not the most sociable place during the day, as people are extremely busy and concentrated on their work, however they know how to let their hair down after 6 o'clock.
Overall, it was well-organised, despite some minor shortcomings in communications.
I was sent to a internal training course in my time at Santander. In addition, my colleagues ensured to teach me a lot about the area of our team and answered all of my questions.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare/Dental
I would definitely return to the Bank as full-time graduate.
The Culture
Yes, there would be weekly or bi-weekly parties organised.
Cost of living in Euston, as with all of Central London is quite dear.
Euston is really close to Leicester Square and Shoreditch so it benefits from a good social scene.
Yes, definitely. At the beginning of the internship we were split into group and every group had to organise a charity pub quiz. All the proceeds would go to the British Heart Foundation.
