    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had an amazing time during the internship at Bloomberg LP. It was both challenging and enjoyable. There were multiple social events and everybody was friendly and willing to help with any problems I had. I had the chance to learn a great deal and feel a part of the community of the company.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The projects I was assigned seemed really important for the success of the project my team was working on. Thus, my work felt extremely valuable for the benefit of the service I was working on. Everybody was there to help and navigate me in the right direction in order to complete the task in the best possible way.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My mentor and managers were always there to discuss any issues I had. Their assistance made my internship enjoyable and relaxed. There were a lot of Bloomberg-specific features, tools and information I had to get used to really quickly in order to be able to do my work efficiently. Fortunately enough, I was provided the necessary support to deal with those.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I did not feel preoccupied most of the time. I had individual self-paced projects without any hard deadlines. That fact made me feel relaxed and not pressured to complete my projects too quickly. This also allowed me to polish my products and deliver good quality support tools for the benefit of my team.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was not given that much responsibility. Many Bloomberg Terminal Functions were restricted to me and I frequently had to ask for further permissions in order to be able to do my work. Not having access to a lot of facilities and data made me feel I do not have that much responsibility. The projects I was working on were not critical for the company either.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned a lot in terms of Machine Learning and Cluster Management here at Bloomberg. Considering I am going to be studying Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning) in my 3rd year at university I would like to believe that the experience I got will be of big benefit for both my academic life but also my professional one.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in my office was really professional and relaxed. What I enjoyed most was the fact that there were people of so many different backgrounds. Bloomberg is definitely not a typical tech company as I had the chance to meet people from departments like Global Data, Analytics, News, etc. Everybody is really friendly, relaxed and not pressured for time.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was generally well organized. There were many social events, skills workshops and help from the Human Relations team. However, there were few things that could be improved. For example, in the first two weeks after I joined I had to wait a long time to get my permissions set up, which slowed me down by not letting me start my work properly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were many skills workshops and tech talks on many various topics related to Computer Science. I definitely felt the company was trying to improve both my professional, communicative and technical skills in order to perform better at my working duties. There were also talks by distinguished speakers who were coming from all over the world to discuss problems in multiple areas.

    Subsidised Canteen

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to go back to work at Bloomberg LP. I had a really good time and I met a lot of intelligent and creative people. It gave me the opportunity to learn a lot and experience a lot. The company is definitely one of the best opportunities for everybody to start/continue their career.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was amazing. The company was constantly organizing social events with different themes. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of young intelligent people who I would to keep in touch with for both professional and personal needs. The events were ranging from after-work drinks and tech talks to company sponsored lunches and annual events.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The London Bloomberg LP office is situated in one of the more expensive areas of the British capital. Because of that socializing after work was always a bit of a challenge but never impossible. You can always keep a financial balance but not be able to splurge. However, there are many cheaper London borough half an hour away where you can always go and enjoy a relatively cheap night out.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area where our office is situated is not famous for having a lot of nightlife opportunities. However, Shoreditch is just 15 min walk from here and it is famous for its good nightlife, fun events and clubs. There is also Picadilly which is 15 min tube ride away, which is definitely the best place in London to party.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • London is considered the cultural capital of the world so there are definitely many many opportunities outside work. The events are ranging from musicals, operas and design festivals to paintball, go-karting and amusement parks. However, those opportunities can be a bit on the pricey side but still relatively affordable.
