The Role
Enjoyed it thoroughly
They gave me lots of tasks to do and were interested in the work I completed. Sometimes they would be very busy so I had to learn to be independent and work alone but overall it was an incredibly friendly workplace.
Assigned a mentor, buddy and line manager and all of these people continually checked that I was doing alright and that I understood everything. I had weekly meetings with my line manager and spoke to my buddy and mentor a lot too. The organisation of this scheme worked very well.
When I was proactive I was very busy, there was always something to do. Some days I would be slow and that's when I struggled. Mostly it was a good balance.
Had two presentations to give by the end of the internship that were completely my responsibility and those were left to me. On other projects I assisted more senior members of the team with their work.
I learnt a huge amount about finance but this does not relate back to my degree. However, the presentation skills, work skills and people skills I learnt will be a huge asset to me in my final year of university as well as in my career later on.
The Company
The team was very friendly but knew when to get down to work. Overall it was an open and friendly space where you could talk to anyone, but the first priority is always to get the work one.
Very well organised. Intern events were every week plus the opportunity to do some charity work and meet more senior people in the company.
As I knew very little about finance before the internship the members of my team taught me a lot and invested a lot of time teaching me. I wish I could have learnt more on the technology that is used, but my team were not focused on this side of things as much as others, so I learnt as much as they needed.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Have not heard back yet but am very keen to be offered a job to start after my final year of university.
The Culture
Other interns were very social and my team were also very social too.
Lots of good places to eat and drink but it is incredibly expensive, most of my money this summer was spent on food and socialising.
Good pubs and bars, but as someone who lives in London I preferred to go closer to home.
As much as you wanted, you could be very social or less so. The internship offered lots of opportunities to socialise outside of work.
