    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and all willing to help me settle in. There was a good relaxed atmosphere in the workplace. I found that I completed all my assigned tasks rather quickly so I didn't have much to be getting on with after the first few weeks and ended up not doing as much as I was capable of.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel the work I did was very valuable towards the efficient running of my department. Colleagues use the meeting system I created for example.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Quite a bit a the beginning but dissipated as the internship progressed and everyone got on with their own things. It was quite difficult to get more attention later on.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Half the days I was busy with meetings / activites / tasks to be doing but the other half I found I was waiting to be given something to do or for someone to get back to me before I could continue, so I just had to wait.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot responsibility into their systems which made me feel valued and trusted.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think I developed my social skills working within a team including improving my communication, presenting in meetings and in front of audiences and unfamiliar people.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Mostly relaxed and comfortable apart from in a major incident where the team would all spring into action. It was comfortable as work was done but you felt you could also chat to colleagues during the day.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I Don't think it was that well organised, since this was the first one, it was obvious they thought that It would take me much longer to complete the tasks initially set. So once I completed these within the first few weeks they didn't have much left for me to do or had thought about it, therefore had to come up with things on the spot which felt a bit like they just want to fill my time with something.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I didn't receive any training really, I sat down with some of my collegues on multiple occasions and had meetings so did receive some experience from their time, however this internship was unpaid and offered no formal training on systems, which I would have liked.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think the future employment prospects are more appealing as those roles have more to do behind them and would be a better use of my skills and qualifications.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there were frequent bar nights, entertainment evenings and volunteer / fundraising events involving me fundraising with a team of 4 people and doing a 20km walk, making friends throughout.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London is very high, it was shocking on an unpaid internship they give a mere £4 a day to cover your food/drink, when it hardly gets you anything. Travel was capped weekly at £50 reimbursed.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't really go out and experience the nightlife during my internship but London is generally good.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes frequent emails presenting new volunteering opportunities and entry level roles.

    4/5
