The Role
I really enjoyed my placement, I was made to feel welcome, spent a lot of time with various teams and was given plenty of work to do. I had a good manager who looked after me and introduced me to the team so I felt part of it from the start. I also got involved in external activities with the team which was really fun.
I definitely felt really valued by my colleagues . They all gave me lots of work to do and I even got opportunity to help them with projects. I was able to input lots of different things which helped them a lot and which made me feel even more valued by the team.
I was given lots of support by management and was always made to feel welcome in asking questions and getting the support I needed, It meant I was a lot more confident and even had a seperate line manager based elsewhere which I could ring if there were any internal issues I was facing.
I was really busy most of the time, I got to work on lots of different tasks which took time and so I wasn't left feeling bored. I also got plenty of time for lunch and wasn''t required to work ridiculous hours hence I wasn't stressed and was able to complete a reasonable amount of work in a fair amount of time.
I was given lots of responsibilty during my 10 weeks at Santander, I was delegated my own indiciduals task with deadlines to meet. I also had lots of responsibilities when it came to timing, planning and organising. This was key to my CSR project where we had lots of responsibility in organising an event.
I developed a whole abundance of skills whilst on my placement. Skills that won't also help me in my degree, such as timing and organising, but also learnt a lot about what skills were required to be successful in a multinational corporation, dealing with a wide variety of people daily.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very lively and people were always friendly which helped me enjoy the internship a lot more. I was always made to feel welcome because people were so friendly but also it was good to get lots of work done. The office definitely allowed me to meet a lot of new faces and learn from lots of new people.
The programme was really well organised and it had great structure to it. It allowed me to see a wide variety of the business and also I got great exposure to very senior people which I think does not happen in many other organisations. I didn't just see the sections the pleacement outlined but a lot, lot more.
The company invested lots of time in me in helping me gain lots of skills. I was able to attend any meeting avaliable to other staff in the office and learnt lots from this. My manager definitely helped me develop lots of new skills and improve any current skills I possessed which was great.

The prospects are very appealing here at Santander, the company gives such a wide variety of growth opportunites, not just in the business in england but also because they are an international bank, there is so much scope for working abroad and fulfilling your career ambitions in a new culture.
The Culture
Yes there was a very good social scene, there was a monthly bowling event on a thursday night which was great fun and also interns in the area were always down for some fun. Being located in such a big city there was always plenty of activities on week nights and weekends for us to get involved in.
The cost of living wasn't too bad because I was able to stay in some university accommodation for the 10 weeks. The cost of living was pretty cheap with good access to a variety of shops. Going out was a bit more expensive but was still very easy to do off the wage we were being paid by Santander.
The nightlife was really really good. Always lots to do, and work encouraged me to get involved as much as possible. It wasn't too expensive to be go out and there was a good scene for everyone. The nightlife is a lot better in Leeds than anywhere I've ever been which was a huge positive.
Yes there were many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work such as bowling, networking events with advisors and clients. Other activities such as sporting events we attended like games of golf, cricket matches and lots more. It gave me great chance to network and connect with other people in the financial world.
