The Role
This placement was extremely enjoyable. From day one, it was made apparent that working here means facing a new challenge everyday. I worked on many projects of my own and also supported daily tasks of the department. This kept me on my toes and gave me chance to prove myself and evolve not only as a professional but as a person as well.
Since I started working at a busy time for the department, I certainly felt valued by my colleagues! Throughout my stint, my support was required for various projects or tasks and I ended up working with every single member for team and some externals as well. My inputs and advice were valued by my colleagues and that felt great! I certainly felt like a member of the team and built some great friendships by the end of the placement!
I had an amazing mentor for the period of my placement, and this certainly helped me add a lot of value to my work and my self-development. I received the right guidance for the right occasion, whether it was project related advice or insight into succeeding in the corporate industry! Apart from my mentor, other team members were also extremely supportive and did not hesitate to guide me when it was required.
There was always something to do, every single day! There were enough tasks/projects for me to steer/support on a daily basis. I had to plan and prioritize tasks in order to efficiently deliver within given timelines. Some days were quite busy but most days were well balanced. It is needless to say that I was never bored!
Having gone through the initial training phase, I was given more independence and responsibility with time. Alongside supporting tasks, I steered a few of my own projects as well, some of which I was reporting directly to the management. On proving myself and showing initiative, I was able to seek and take responsibility and accountability for projects.
This placement was certainly developmental for me, and I can treat this as a life experience. I learnt a lot about the industry, people and the corporate realm. I can say that my learnings from this placement will prove useful throughout my professional career!
The Company
Very good! Everyone was friendly with each other, even when this got a bit stressful!
It was well organised, especially the fact that I was able to set up this placement from abroad. It was an easy process and there was a lot of pre-placement guidance provided, making it very convenient to settle in.

To me, it is certainly appealing. There is a lot of opportunity to learn, network and grow as an individual whilst working for BMW. All of this in an internationally diverse environment. The company certainly takes good care of its employees as well so it is a great place for a long term career. The place is great to work for and the perks are great too!
The Culture
There is a strong student/graduate community at BMW group, so there are loads of people to socialize with! Every weekend, you'd find colleagues meeting up for a drink or two at the local pub. In my case, I would hang out quite frequently with my team mates, and we had a little group of our own! So it is fair to say that the social scene is pretty good outside of work as well.
The cost of living in Chichester was relatively high. The pubs were a bit expensive as well relative to other parts of the country. However, you will be adequately remunerated for the standard of living in the area. I had a great time and enjoyed myself without breaking the bank!
