The Role
The internship was a fantastic experience. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Having carried out internships at other large firms in the industry, I believe this is the best.
I felt welcomed into both my team and the company as a whole. During the internship I felt more like a colleague and an employee than a temporary intern. Directors and graduates took the time to speak with me and to provide me with their insights.
My supervisor was extremely busy as he was a director and there was no graduate in my team that I could go to with questions. However, my supervisor always took the time to give me guidance where necessary, to help critique my work and to contextualise my tasks. My graduate buddy was in a different team however he was more than happy to help me with my work and took time to teach me tasks when my Supervisor was unavailable.
As I was working directly alongside the Director in my team I was very busy for the majority of the internship. I had daily tasks to carry out and two larger projects. All interns also had a group presentation to prepare, which was later presented to the COO.
Initially I received slightly smaller tasks as I had no previous Real Estate experience however I received high levels of responsibility throughout the majority of the internship. Any further responsibility than I received would have been a stretch too far given my knowledge and experience! I was also included in almost all client and internal meetings.
I undertook two further internships after leaving JLL. The skills that I learned helped me to work more efficiently and to be more proactive at each of these. I have also gained an excellent understanding of Yields, Zone As and the initial valuation process that I can take with me to my MSc.
The Company
There was an open, collaborative and energetic atmosphere in the office.
The internship was fantastically well organised with learning sessions throughout the four weeks presented by directors of different teams. There were also organised networking events with interns, graduates and new starters.
Of the three internships that I undertook this Summer, JLL invested the most time in me as an intern. The CEO, CFO and COO all took time to speak with us and the COO took the time to listen to and critique our group presentations. There were regular presentations on different aspects of the company and key initiatives in the firm by Directors. HR shared the criteria on which we were to be evaluated throughout the internship with us at the beginning and encouraged us to speak with our Supervisors for regular updates.

Interns that receive positive feedback are also put forward to an early assessment day. The assessment day takes place at the end of the Summer however interns only find out whether they have been successful at the end of October. APC training support appears to be excellent with practice interviews and feedback throughout the two years.
The Culture
All colleagues and interns socialised outside the workplace with regular spontaneous and organised social events. Interns were included and integrated in all of these.
The cost of living in London is relatively high however this is expected and the internship is paid to help cover costs. There is a subsidised cafe in the office.
The office is situated in the West End with all options nearby.
As interns we were invited to many events and activities outside of work. This included the JLL Property Triathlon (with some interns even competing), Departmental drinks and activities such as Urban Golf.
