The Role
I quite enjoyed it but wish I have learnt more beyond what my department does, especially in term of financial products.
I were treated as a full-time employee. All my colleagues were so supportive and very willing to help whether it was theoretical questions or just excel techniques. They were also really nice. However, sometimes it was hard to know whether you actually did something well, because they were too nice to tell you didnt do well in something
Both my mentor and my manager were very supportive in term of both long term careers as well as everyday work.
Not so busy as my manager had to be on several business trips, However, you can always fill with up by setting networking sessions with senior staffs or people from other department to learn more.
My manager gave me set of projects I need to work on with specified deadline. I was treated just as a full time employee
Excel skills and communication skills have greatly improved. I also felt more confident and learnt more about the industry
The Company
it was quite good and you felt everyone was quite enegentic( with a lot of talking to internal client).
I think it was quite organized with lectures and speaker sessions throughout the internship but several things can be improved: 1) set up IT account for intern well in advance to avoid dead time. I didnt obtain my IT account after 2 weeks, which meant I couldnt do any actual work. 2) List of synonym in advance would be useful 3) Speaker notes should be sent in advance for interns to prepare and be more engage in the speeches especially when they were held during lunch time
The company has speaker series and lectures throughout the internship, which are quite useful for interns to get to know other parts of the organization.
Operations was not quite for me. I could do the job but I prefer something much more dynamic, with more financial market exposure. I love UBS and people there so I am hoping I could do some experiences in other places and return to UBS one day
The Culture
Yes, there was a very good social scene amongst fellow placement students.
So expensive. Rent is super high, 200 pounds per week for a single room. The food in this area is not good but expensive.
I dont go clubbing but as it is in central london, I think ""Never Sleep "" is the description
Alot of volunteers that you can join. Also meeting up with senior staffs is great opportunity to learn more and understand about the company
