The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Atkins. Worked with some amazing people and very interesting/challenging projects.
Felt like I was part of the team from day one.
I was given technical support and general guidance when I required it and everyone was willing and able to help.
From day one I was set on a project which kept me busy throughout my placement.
I was given a lot of responsibility in helping to produce a design in principle for the client. I carried out finite analysis as well as detailed calculations for proposed concepts. In addition, I produced some bridge inspection reports which were also presented to the client upon review from my line manager.
Extremely useful and have been told to ask anyone for help if I so require it for help with future studies/dissertation. This placement has also helped me decide what sector of engineering I would want to pursue after completing my degree.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great. Everyone was got one well. We had a lot of fun and laughter whilst tackling all the challenges the projects had to offer. Lots of chocolates, cakes and samosa Fridays.
Very organised; the line managers were great with delegating work for the level of my ability.
The company invested a lot of time and effort in helping to train me on using the finite analysis software which I had never come across before. In addition, everyone was ready to help taking time out of their busy schedules to explain various concepts and theories to aid my development and work.

The Culture
There was always someone to eat lunch with and enjoyed a couple beer garden nights with the team as well as a boat trip through Bath.
Not cheap but not too bad. It wasn't the centre of Bristol.
Bristol is well known for having a vibrant night life including many places to dine out ( Gloucester road) etc.
The company set up football games with other sectors and companies. I had the opportunity to help plan the company boat trip for over 35 staff members.
