The Role
It has been a great experience for me to work at BlackRock. I had the chance to participate to 3 induction days in London, although I was based in Zürich. It helped a lot to get to know the firm better. After those 3 days, I could get very quickly involved in various interesting projects and got to know various areas of the business better.
I really felt I was part of the team. I could be involved in many very interesting project. I also for example was in charge of some tasks alone. So it was a great way to learn. I had to coordinate with different teams across the organization. Colleagues were then also coming to me when they had questions about our business, which was very valuable.
The structure is very well organized. I had a buddy giving me many tasks and helping me when needed. I also had many tasks to fulfil for my line manager and other colleagues. I could learn quickly who to ask for help when needed. And the colleagues and superiors were always happy and ready to help.
I was pretty busy, I never had the time to get bored. Even though the workload was pretty heavy, the days passed were quickly. Another positive aspect was the fact that the tasks were very diverse. I could for example go to client meetings. I was in the front office, so we got often diverse client requests.
I had the feeling I got many responsibilities. Also for the fact that I only was staying 10 weeks, I got involved in many projects and could take ownership on some tasks. I could experience the high service quality required by BlackRock and could do my part in order to help my colleagues to get the job done correctly.
I feel confident that my experience at BlackRock will help me in the future. I could work with very experienced people who are the best you can find in the industry. I learned to prioritize better and work hard under pressure. The fact that the program only lasts 10 weeks obligates you to be focused from the start to get involved very quickly.
The Company
I was in the Zürich office that is still growing and employs currently only about 95 people. Therefore, the atmosphere was very good and everyone knew each other. It was great to have access to Managing Director so easily. I had the chance to participate to the summer event during my first week and the atmosphere was great.
It was a very good organization with 3 induction days in London for all the summer intern of EMEA. Maybe something a bit annoying was the fact that I had to give my personal details many times before and during the internship. I think that the coordination between the business and HR could also be a bit better. But otherwise, we were very good informed and got the answers needed when needed.
We had the chance to have many internal trainings. I think it was a great way to learn more about the different business areas. For a program of only 10 weeks, I think we had many opportunities to learn. It was also one's responsibility to go the relevant people to get information. The colleagues were always open and happy to help or explain their work.

I think the place is great to work to. Of course it is in the financial industry and there are many fluctuation and the headcounts are tight. But to begin a career at BlackRock is certainly very appealing. It's a global company leader in the asset management business. And great people are working there.
The Culture
It was great. We had many trainings together and also some projects. We got to know each other and help each other when needed.
The living cost were pretty high. I lived in Zürich, which is an expensive city. Nevertheless, the salary was good enough to enjoy the live there. I know the city pretty well so it was easy to socialize and I had many contacts there.
The nightlife in Zürich is pretty great, like in every big city. I knew the city, so I knew the places to go. It was a great experience for me.
The workload was pretty heavy, so it was difficult to do much during the week. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my weekends by the lake of Zürich.
