The Role
It was a great experience - met wonderful and very smart people, got assigned to projects that fit my skillset perfectly and really enjoyed the work itself. The atmosphere on the desk and the office itself was also very pleasant. The programme was very well-organised and included various trainings and social events.
The company made us feel very welcome and we were treated as equal to the full time employees from the first day of the internship.
The support I received from manager as well as the rest of the team was extremely valuable. It allowed me to not only complete my given tasks very effectively but also expand on my knowledge and skills. It was easy to arrange meetings with my manger to discuss any issues or ask for help and advice.
One of the crucial skills required to complete the internship successfully was the ability to organise your time. The real challenge was to prioritise tasks in order to meet deadlines and be prepared to participate in the rest of the internship activities. Once you learn how to manage time efficiently the daily workload is just right.
I was given the right amount of work and responsibilities that matched my skillset as well as the time frame of the internship (8 weeks on the desk is not such a long time). All of the tasks I was given were of some help to the team (most of my work was useful for a research publication).
One of the tasks I was working on gave me a very good start for learning a new programming language. Throughout the internship thanks to not only everyday responsibilities, but also series of events and tech-ins, I was able to develop knowledge in finance and relate the rather theoretical concepts from my course to some real-world applications.
The Company
Very relaxed and pleasant. Regardless of their rank, people were easy to approach.
It appears that the organisers of the programme have put a great thought when deciding how to structure it. We had various activities and events organised for us almost every day, in addition to the projects we were given by our managers. Sometimes it was challenging to manage everything but prioritasing tasks was one of the key skills we had to develop.
Given the fact that the programme was only 9 weeks long, the company did invest quite a lot of time and effort to support our personal development and training. That included series of teach-ins, skill-based trainings, presentations from senior people within the company or external professionals. The was also plenty of opportunity to learn a new skill with the various online trainings that the company offers.
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing. Passion for the job and the exceptional people are the two main reasons for my decision to join the company as a graduate.
The Culture
The atmosphere among interns was very good.
Standard for the City of London.
Again, standard for the City .
There are various ways to get involved in activities outside work, for instance volunteering; The company encourages it and even had a day devoted to community affairs which was incredibly rewarding experience. We also had a few social events during the programme that allowed us to get to know the rest of the interns.
