About You
The insight was a fantastic experience as there was a focus on networking events, which is the best way to find out about each line of business i.e. talking directly with the employees. The short 3 day programme was just enough to fully experience each aspect we were interested in and find out about other areas we didn't know much about.
It was clear everyone at the firm took a real interest in all of us and made an effort to talk to each of us.
Support was given to anyone who asked for it. If we were unsure of how a concept worked all employees and graduate recruitment were very helpful and more than happy to assist us.
This placement has given me knew motivation for my degree and allowed me to realise which skills are most important for the business line I wish to pursue.
The Company
The insight was very well structured and a lot of information was packed into a few days but it never seemed rushed. The amount of time spent on each session and activity was just right.
Everyone I spoke to on the insight had a fantastic time and there was an excellent mix of fun group and networking activities and more formal panels and presentations.
The firm provided many skills sessions and networking events, which allowed us to develop personally and speak to professionals in the field who advised us further with more advice about how to develop personally and professionally.
There were numerous opportunities to network with and speak to representatives and employees of the firm from business lines across the firm. This allowed us to ask any questions we had in an informal setting and the employees were very honest and all seemed to really enjoy their job.
Through speaking to many employees it was clear what the culture was like. Everyone emphasised how friendly the culture was whilst also having a focus on providing the best results.
We selected two business areas before starting the Insight Programme that we wished to explore further. In these areas we had a presentation and case study (in GCIB) and some work shadowing, speed networking and a presentation in Global Markets. These two sections of the day helped me decided between Markets and GCIB but within GCIB there wasn't much time spent on the differences between each area and so it has been difficult to decide between the areas within GCIB.
Everything Else
Accommodation I required was paid for.
There were numerous opportunities each day for networking and meeting other employees of BAML. These included networking lunches, drinks, dinner, breakfast, speed networking and round tables.
The networking opportunities were all excellent as they all had a wide variety of firm representatives to talk to about their roles and their experiences at BAML. There was a good mix of formal and more informal settings.
There was a networking breakfast dedicated to finding out more about the diversity networks within the firm and a talk on Corporate Social Responsibility. Talking to many different people within the bank also allowed us to ask about further activities they are involved in outside of their primary work.
Yes this insight was a fantastic experience and allowed us to really see what it would be like to work both in a leading global investment bank and within BAML in particular.
