    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was an excellent experience and well-structured to maximize the benefits for both the company and also the intern. The 10 weeks of internship was filled with networking events with senior managers and colleagues which helped build good relationships and also understand the firm better. The working hours weren't hectic and there seemed to be an optimal work life and social life balance during my internship.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I built really strong relationships with my colleagues during the 10 weeks at the firm and I always felt valued by my colleagues as they did entrust me with valuable tasks on a regular basis. I was invited to all my team meetings including the ones with senior management from across the globe and encouraged to offer my views during these sessions.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support given by my manager was immense and he made sure that I grow quickly by advising me where to explore and applying the information instead of easily giving the information away. The HR team played an important role during my time there to ensure that the internship went smoothly and constantly updating us on different events and deadlines. The supervisors were very pleasant to talk to and always answered my queries patiently.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was kept quite busy on a daily basis, thanks to a project given to me by my team during the internship. This ensured that I was spending my time at the firm in a valuable way and also not too much to make me consider it a burden. There were some days where I felt there was a little more load than usual and likewise there were a few days where I felt I could have been occupied a bit more but all in all, I felt like I was contributing on a daily basis which made the internship period very interesting!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As mentioned before, I really felt valued by my colleagues owing to the good amount of responsibilities handed to me. I was working alongside my colleagues on the team's day-to-day activities and contributed to a project that would be used by different teams across the department. I was also given the freedom to talk to the stakeholders to obtain information related to the project and also the right software tools to help implement it.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The technical skills I had gained during my time at the firm will surely be of great help when I get back to University. As J.P.Morgan is essentially a financial firm,I was able to broaden my financial knowledge and understand how the technology fits in to the services offered by the company. The various soft skills I had acquired during my time there will surely be transferable to my university and beyond.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was excellently organised with multiple activities during the course of it. The Corporate Social Responsibility task that was held during mid-way through the internship was an excellent way of giving something back to the community. Networking-events and final technical presentation of the various projects that the interns worked on, all added up to be the complete well-structured package.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company did invest a lot in the interns in terms of training by assigning us mandatory training courses which we had to take throughout the internship. There were always a few free technical sessions offered which the employees are free to attend but would need to make time for it during working hours. Personal development also depends on how much we would like to learn and there are always some helpful colleagues who are ready to invest their time in our development.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The internship program is structured in such a way that the intern has enough time to learn more about the company and understand if their motives and ambitions match that of the firm's. Likewise, it is also an opportunity for the firm to understand the intern's capabilities and decide if they shall be a good fit for the organisation in the future. The firm looks to offer a graduate role to all the interns who performed well during the summer.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in the area was reasonable but it definitely is not the cheapest place to live. There are multiple restaurants and food outlets to try in the area which come at a reasonable price. If you do end up regularly eating out, it should cost you about 250 pounds a month. In terms of socializing, you can always go for bowling with your friends or probably try a hand at laser tag which shouldn't cost more than 10 pounds per person.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The firm has multiple sports clubs which are active throughout the year and play regularly on a weekly basis. The interns were also invited to football games which took place thrice a week outside of work at a leisure center which was located close to the office.
