The Role
I have really enjoyed working at J.P.Morgan, the people there are extremely nice, approachable and knowledgeable. The programme is also well structured, where there are many events organised for interns and many opportunities to learn from different teams. Sadly, the role was not well suited for me, so i did not fully enjoy the experience.
My manager made me feel valued where he invested a lot of time to teach me about the products and services offered. Each morning, he would schedule a one hour slot to teach me and to answer any questions that I had. In addition, my colleagues made me feel like a part of their team and was really friendly. I was included in the weekly meetings with senior people.
I was given a lot of support by manager, where he invested a lot of time and gave me throughout the internship. However, I felt that HR did not provide much support when I mentioned that I felt that I was not suited to my role. They did not provide any guidance on how I should proceed so that I could succeed in my internship and gain the most out of it.
Due to the nature of the role, I was unable to do project based work but I felt that there could have been more tasks assigned. In the beginning, I was busy with training and shadowing sessions but later on there were not much tasks given. I was given ad hoc reporting tasks which did not take a long time to complete and so I had nothing to do most of the time.
I was given a lot of responsibility during the internship, where my project involved client work.
I have developed my confidence in delivering presentations since I had several opportunities to give presentations and to talk to people. I have also gained a deeper understanding about the services and products provided, which can help me in my career in a similar field. Also, it has allowed me to learn how to adapt in a professional setting.
The Company
Great, not quiet but not too stressful.
The internship was very well organised by HR, where interns were given a welcome speech in the beginning and had an opportunity to network with other interns on the very first day. Interns then had one week training of the financial markets and had opportunities to hear from speakers from several teams. On the desk, managers went through objectives and the internship project.
They invest extensively in interns. In the beginning, they paid for one week training for all interns and planned many speaker sessions with different teams. All colleagues were happy to spend time to explain concepts to interns and to grab coffee with interns, and so it was an extremely helpful and approachable environment. Also, they paid for e-learning courses, where you have access to over 100 modules to learn in spare time.

The Culture
As previously mentioned, the firm heavily invests in interns where they cover expenses for social networking events. They have organised welcome drinks for interns at The Parlour, a mid intern BBQ and end of intern drinks at a hall. During the internship, my team also went out to go to Hint Hunt, an escape game, and then a meal. The interns went out together in the beginning but gradually stopped.
Since the internship takes place in London, there are great opportunities to socialise. London Nightlife is great where there are countless clubs and bars. However, I cannot comment much on the social life during the internship as we didn't go out much. The prices in London for drinks are not cheap though and it can be inconvenient to go home as trains stop running at certain times.
There were many opportunities to be involved in activities outside work. There are several social and sport clubs that you can join and be a part of. For example, the running and sailing club. Some of these clubs are free and these groups are a great place to meet new people. In addition, there are Business Resource groups such as Women's Network, which holds events to help people in their career.
