The Role
The placement was excellent and provided real world experience in an exciting field of work. From the start I have been given genuine work that needs completing for customers and not the boring scraps that someone else doesn't want to do. I've been given the opportunity to interact with lots of different parts of the business and go on varying facility tours which was great
Colleagues have trusted me with work and responsibilities which says a lot. The work I have completed feeds directly into what they are doing so is valued greatly as it is heavily required by them. Everyone has been very welcoming and friendly
Weekly meetings with line managers is a common thing. Most people (including myself) sit next to their line managers and enables continuous contact. People are often very happy to help with any questions you have.
It varied. At the beginning it was a bit patchy as my manager was careful not to overload me with work. As a result there was times where I was not very busy, This was only for short periods ( an hour here or there). Everyone is also very encouraging when it comes to working your hours and not over working. Taking your allocated holiday time is also easy. As time went on the work load was increased as you begin to develop skills that are useful and thus get utilised.
A lot. I was given real work that would be sent to customers and also given the responsibility to arrange important meetings. I was genuinely surprised by the level of responsibility given to someone still at university but it is very closely managed and not daunting
I learnt a lot of software skills that I will use when I return to university. There is also a lot of time management and deadline management skills learnt. The industrial experience gives you an appreciation for the business aspects too and gives a knowledge of how important the final consumer is to the design stages.
The Company
Hard working but at the same time not too formal. There were chats and conversations going on so it was pleasant. Everyone had a bit of a laugh when the time was right
It was OK. There was some disorganisation on the first day and during the application process. Once started it was good
All the time spent here was personal development
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Very good. Would like to return in the future
The Culture
There were events organised occasionally but nothing regular. That would have been good. They should have provided help with finding accommodation
Very cheap compared to at home
It was OK. Not the best but certainly useable
There were some but mainly self arranged
