The Role
There were ups and downs, I found the first couple of months a real shock to the system and a personal struggle but the second half of my placement has been a challenge but enjoyable and I have gained an awful lot of skills from it
Being a partnership it very much feels like a family, of course there will be a level of resentment felt but this is expected and it is how you deal with it that will affect the outcome
In theory the support and guidance was there had the branch I had gone into not been new - there is plenty of opportunity to develop
Being a dynamic environment you are never bored but at times you can be extremely busy - time management and prioritising is crucial
I was left running the section for 2weeks whilst my manager was on holiday a each week when my manager was off
The Company
People were on the whole cheery and welcoming, there was a good rapport and sense of fun and laughter when appropriate
The placement was reasonably organised, there is a huge emphasis on self development and you only get something if you ask
The training days avaliable throughout the placement were very beneifcial, there was great potential to attend further development - it was a case of finding out what was avaliable
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The graduate scheme on offer is a fantastic opportunity and the partnership offers so many opportunities to develop
The Culture
Being in store meant that I was not near the other placement students, a lot of the partners I worked with were quite a lot older than me however this would vary between branches
I lived at home - there are plenty of shops within the area, Leicester is only about 20minutes away
The social club within branch was still establishing however the partnership offers so many opportunities for places to go, free entrance, cinema tickets the benefits are endless
